Afghanistan interim government: Dostum sounds discordant note

The power-sharing agreement that came about at the Bonn conference, involving various Afghan factions, may face opposition from Uzbek warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum, who has refused to honour the accord complaining that he had been given an insignificant portfolio in the interim government, which is to administer Afghanistan for six months.

Dostum, one of the most influential commanders of the Northern Alliance, said he would boycott the interim government and would not enter Kabul till a permanent government was in place.

He had insisted on being given the foreign minister's portfolio but was, instead, offered the ministries of mining, industry and agriculture.

"It is humiliating," he said.

He refused to allow the government to use the oil and gas resources in the provinces under his control.
