VHP to organise a yatra to 40 countries

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and its supporters have organised a yatra (journey) of Sadhus (monks), Sadhvis (female monks) and others to 40 countries in all the five continents.

The yatra (journey) under the title 'Coexistence, Cooperation and Interdependence' celebrates 'the gifts of Hindu culture to quality of life'.

This group of holy men, women, political leaders and businessmen would reach Port of Spain in Trinidad on Sunday.

From Trinidad, the group would go to Guyana, Surinam and Barbados before reaching Toronto on August 23, said L M Sabharwal, president of VHP (Canada) and coordinator of the group's programme.

The group comprises of Swami Shankaracharya Davianand Saraswati Maharaj, Swami Chidanand Saraswati, fiery speaker and orator Sadhvi Ritambhara of Param Shakti Peeth, businessman B K Mody, and VHP leaders, Anjali Pandya and Mahesh Mehta, from New York.

"Yatras are unique occasions through which messages of life's spiritual dimensions are shared within a community and sometimes around the world," said a VHP handout being distributed in temples of Toronto.

"The purpose of the international Yatra is to mobilise all religious and cultures to address critical problems facing their communities and achieve a better understanding of the values and principles of Hinduism, the oldest, and one of the most complex of all the living, historical world religions," added the handout.

Interestingly, the organisers seem to have plenty of funds at their disposal.

The group would stay at the Sheraton Hotel and they have engaged a professional public relations firm that is looking after the publicity part during their stay in Toronto.
