 The sarvanjanik Ganeshotsav mandal, organised every year by Dagdu Sheth Halwai, Lakshmi street, Pune, is one of the most traditional and notable in the state. Dagdu Sheth was a friend of Lokmanya Tilak. When Tilak started sarvajanik Ganeshotsavs in 1893, Dagdu began as well. The first Dagdu Ganpati was a simple mud one. This is the third idol. Incidentally this Ganpati will not go for immersion. The idol used for the puja is kept in a temple all year round and during the festival it is brought out. After 10 days it goes back to the temple. Notice that the murti has been embellished with gold. |
