How to get there

Vaishnodevi is about 60 km from Jammu. It is possible to reach Kathra, the town at the foot of the Vaishnodevi hill, by car or bus. The journey is two hours long. From Kathra it is a 13 km trek to the shrine.

Indian Airlines flies into Jammu daily from New Delhi. A number of trains pull into Jammu from the capital; a ten hour journey. The Jammu Tawi Express is a good train to opt for.

Where to stay

A variety of lodging for pilgrims is available at the shrine and at Kathra. However for more comfortable lodging stay at Jammu and do Vaishnodevi as a day trip; it would be a long and tiring day trip.

In Jammu:

  • Hotel Mansar, Dennis Gate, tel # 0191-543610, 543030, 573055. Rs 750 for a double room.
  • Vaishnavi Dham, near the railway station.
