In a few villages of Salcete, khell -- or theatre -- is another attraction of the traditional carnival. Groups of amateur artistes go around with brass bands and perform short plays and kanataram, songs in the open air. The themes are local, current and full of humour, making fun of the village sarpanch, even the priests.
