A bookshop near Regal cinemaSome of the best of India's handicrafts and handloom items find their way into Bombay. The city's shops -- be they swank boutiques or be they pavement stalls -- are crammed with crafts from India's far flung states. Gorgeous bandhani textiles from Rajasthan, wood carvings from Kerala, woolly rugs from Kashmir, earthy kota silks from Madhya Pradesh are all easily available in Bombay. However Bombay prices are a tad bit high.
Available too are the best made-in-India goods -- excellent cotton clothes, sturdy kitchen equipment, china. And increasingly nowadays Bombay shops are stocked with all varieties of imported goods -- Japanese electronic items, food, perfumes, china -- much of it cheaper than what it would be available for elsewhere abroad.
