Q. In India, empire building was started by the rulers of Magadha. First such ruler was Bimbisar, who belonged to an Aryan dynasty known as Haryanka. After their demise, following three dynasties ruled much bigger empires. They were the dynasties of Sisunag, Nandas and Mauryas and all these three were non-Aryan dynasties. Does it not indicate that cast system was not enforced at least till the demise of Mauryas i.e. till 180 BC. Then why Mahabharata refers to cast system?
