Former Arsenal star Fredrik 'Freddie' Ljungberg confirmed on Friday he will play for the Indian Super League football tournament.

Terming it an ‘exciting opportunity’ Ljungberg tweeted, “Joining Indian Super League in September for 3 months to help promote football in India.

“Keen to share my knowledge and experience of the Premier League…” the Swedish footballer wrote on Twitter on Friday.

While the international player draft will be held in mid-August, the Hero Indian Super League had conducted a two-day domestic player draft in Mumbai this week.

Forty-two players were drafted on the first day -- Tuesday -- while 14, who have already been signed up for the IPL-style league by franchises of Goa and the North East (seven each), were also announced on the day when seven rounds had been completed.

The remaining 42 players from a total strength of 84 were picked by the six franchises on Wednesday.

The ISL is set to kick-off on September 19.
