Sania in QF; on track for first women's doubles Grand Slam title

Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis got past the Spanish pair of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja to move into the ladies doubles quarter-finals at Wimbledon on Monday. 

The top seeds needed just 66 minutes to down the 16th seeded Spanish team 6-4, 6-3.

In a match where both pairs struggled on serve, the Indo-Swiss combine broke twice in the opening set and thrice in the second, while losing serve once in the first and twice in the next.

Sania-Martina, who joined forces in March, have since won three titles in Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston, and reached the final in Rome. They continued their recent run of good form at the All England Club. 

The win keeps Sania on track for her first women's doubles Grand Slam title, the Indian having won three in the mixed category.

Besides, it was at the All England Club that Sania rose to prominence, winning the girls' doubles title in 2003, in partnership with Russia's Alisa Kleybanova.

Hingis, on the other hand, has nine women's doubles titles to her credit, including two at Wimbledon (1996 and 1998).

The 'Swiss Miss' also has five singles titles at Grand Slam events.
