Wimbledon: Bopanna-Vasselin, Bhupathi-Knowle in quarter-finals

Rohan Bopanna and Edouard Roger-Vasselin toppled the third seeded pair of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares to breeze into the men's doubles quarter-finals at Wimbledon on Monday.

The 14th seed Indo-French pair shocked the Austrian-Brazilian combination 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-2 in two hours and 17 minutes.

They will now fight it out with sixth seeds Robert Lindstedt of Sweden and Daniel Nestor of Canada for a place in the semi-finals.

Rohan BopannaJoining Bopanna-Vasselin in the last eight were the Indo-Austrian pair of Mahesh Bhupathi and Julian Knowle, who got the better of Canadians Jesse Levine-Vasek Pospisil 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.

Bopanna-Vasselin saved five of the six break chances they faced while converting three of 12. 

The Indian and his new partner fired 18 aces to six of their opponents.

Bopanna will take field again later on Monday as he plays in the mixed doubles second round with Chinese partner Jie Zheng against Robert Farah of Columbia and Darija Jurak of Croatia. 

Fourth seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek face the 15th seeded Polish pair of Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski.

Sania Mirza will also play two matches today. In the women's doubles she and Liezel Huber lock horns with Shuko Aoyama of Japan and Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa.

In the mixed doubles, Sania and Romanian Horia Tecau, seeded second, take on German combination of Martin Emmrich and Julia Goerges.
