Ace marksman Abhinav Bindra [ Images ] was handed a cash award of Rs 4.33 lakh by sports minister Ajay Maken [ Images ], for his splendid performance at the Asian Shooting Championship in Doha.

Bindra received Rs 3 lakh for winning gold in the 10-metre air rifle while he won an additional Rs 1.33 lakh for winning a silver in the team event. The other team members were Gagan Narang [ Images ] and Satyendra Singh who are still competing at the Doha meet.

Bindra's gold-winning effort at Doha was his first in any kind of Asian competition. He had defeated Zhu Qinan to win the gold.
