Fourth seed Robin Soderling booked his place in the semi-finals of the Paris Masters with a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of American Andy Roddick on Friday.
Swede Soderling's devastating forehand was too much to handle for the eighth-seeded Roddick, who was on the back foot throughout.
Soderling, who will face either unseeded Frenchman Michael Llodra or 10th seed Nikolay Davydenko of Russia for a place in Sunday's final, converted his fifth break chance, in the 11th game, to bag the opening set.
The twice French Open runner-up snatched Roddick's serve early in the second set before wrapping a straightforward win with his 18th ace.
