Top Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal went down fighting to higher-ranked local contender Ryu Seung Min 3-4 in the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in Seoul, South Korea on Saturday.

World number 48 Sharath Kamal lost 3-11, 9-11, 11-1, 11-7, 9-11, 12-10, 8-11 to his South Korean opponent, the 2004 Athens Olympics gold medallist now ranked 16th in the world.

On Friday, Sharath Kamal had beaten another South Korean Lee Sang Su after saving eight match points in a thriller of a pre-quarterfinal match.

Sixteen players who amass maximum points in the ITTF calendar year get to play in the year-ending tournament.

Sharath Kamal and Subhajit Saha had also lost 0-4 (8-11, 1-11, 3-11, 7-11) to Singapore duo of Gao Ning and Yang Zi in the doubles quarter-finals on Friday.

The Indian pair had beaten the same Singaporeans in the 2009 Commonwealth Championships in Glasgow and the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
