Sepp Blatter cleared by FIFA

May 29, 2011 22:55 IST

FIFA's ethics committee cleared president Sepp Blatter on Sunday in soccer's bribery investigation.

Executive committee members Mohamed Bin Hammam and Jack Warner were provisionally suspended pending a further investigation.

"The committee concluded that the implicated officials must be temporarily excluded from active participation in football activities," ethics committee deputy chairman Petrus Damaseb told reporters.

Bin Hammam withdrew his candidacy from the FIFA presidential race in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving the way open for Blatter to be re-elected unopposed for a fourth term at FIFA Congress on June 1.

The allegations concerned a meeting of the Caribbean Football Union in May 10-11 in Port of Spain, attended by Warner and Bin Hammam.

Two other Caribbean officials were also suspended.
