Rain halts Sania's doubles match

Sania Mirza and Alicia MolikLeander Paes and Agnes Szavay rallied past Czech pair of David Skoch and Renata Voracova to advance to the mixed doubles second round in the Australian Open in Melbourne on Friday.

The Indo-Hungarian pair beat their Czech rivals 2-6, 6-2, 10-6.

Paes and Szavay will take on the winners of the match between the sixth seeded Israeli-Taipei pair of Jonathan Erlich and Chia-Jung Chuang and Australians Samuel Groth and Jarmila Gajdosova in the next round.

In women's doubles, Sania Mirza and her Australian partner Alicia Molik's fate hung in balance as they were into third game of the third set when rain suspended play after the two teams split the two first two sets.

The sixth seeded Indo-Australian pair was leading 6-3, 5-7, 1-1 (40-15) against Russians Nadia Petrova and Elena Vesnina in the second round match.

Sania's workload has been doubled for Saturday as apart from completing the doubles match, she will also play her singles third round against Venus Williams.

Meanwhile, the fifth seeded pair of Paes and Paul Hanley of Australia will lock horns with the Indo-American team of Rohan Bopanna and Rajeev Ram in the men's doubles second round match.

Mahesh Bhupathi, who is partnering Bahamas' Mark Knowles will be up against Switzerland's Yves Allegro and Belgian Kristof Vliegen in their second round encounter.
