Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza's injury-forced sabbatical from the game will continue for a few more weeks as she, on Saturday, underwent an arthroscopic surgery on her left-knee at a hospital in Hyderabad.

Elaborating on the surgery that was performed by an orthopedic surgeon, father of the tennis star, Imran said, "Sania had torn her meniscus during the US Open Grand Slam tournament in Flushing Meadows in September and thus the surgery took place.

"Her cricketer husband, Shoaib Malik was present at the hospital when the operation was performed," added Imran.

After suffering an injury last month, Sania had been undergoing a course of injections to avoid a surgery but she failed to respond to the treatment.

Sania MirzaSania had earlier also undergone -- an arthroscopy -- after damaging her ACL on the right knee in 2006 and a right wrist surgery to repair a torn lunate capsule in 2007.

Imran had earlier said that Sania have had two previous surgeries for her knee problem and it had affected her career graph.

"We are praying this time the knee treatment is successful and she does not have to go through all the pain again," he had said.

Sania had broken into the top-10 in women's doubles for the first time in her career when she was struck down with the knee injury during the year's last Grand Slam.
