Real Madrid and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo says he will come back stronger for the upcoming season after suffering a knee injury while playing for his country in the Euro 2016 final.

The Real Madrid striker limped off in tears in the first half of the final against hosts France earlier this month.

The 31-year-old striker suffered the injury following a crunching tackle from Dimitri Payet.

Reports claim the thrice World Player of the Year could miss Real Madrid's start to the La Liga season.

But the club's all-time leading goalscorer took to Instagram to insist he is on the comeback trail.

Ronaldo (@cristiano) posted a video, in which he says: "Hi everyone! I just wanted to thank all my fans."

He is seen in the video on holiday with his left knee in a brace, he adds: "I wanted to tell them that all is well and that I will come back much stronger."

"Thank you, long live Portugal!"
