OC asks Federations to renew contracts with foreign coaches

October 26, 2009 18:26 IST

The 2010 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee has asked all the National Sports Federations to renew their contracts with foreign coaches well in time so that there is no discontinuity.

The CWG OC met 17 NSFs, of the disciplines that would feature in next year's Games, and instructed them to ensure that no foreign coach departs midway, a situation that might affect the athletes' preparation.

"We have told them to get in touch with the coaches and ensure, along with the Sports Authority of India, that their contracts are renewed," Organising Committee (OC) vice chairman Randhir Singh said on Monday.

The OC has also asked the NSFs to enroll their technical officials for the conduct of the Games, he added.

Randhir said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's assurance that India would host a grand Games next year has come as a boost to the OC's confidence.

"It gives us tremendous confidence to know that we have the full support of the government and that they are behind us," he said.

The OC also met all the sub-committees to take stock of the progress made so far and said procurement of equipments would be done strictly by norms.

"Joint secretary Pravir Krishn has assured us that procurement will be completed by December 15," Randhir said.

Krishn has also assured OC that the issue of diet and food supplements would also be taken care of.
