Paes, Bhupathi enter pre-quarterfinals

Indian veterans Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi won their respective matches to advance into the pre-quarterfinals of the US Open in New York on Friday.

Fourth seeds Bhupathi-Mark Knowles knocked out Yves Allegro and Horia Tecau 6-3, 6-3. The duo will next meet Argentines Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco.

Paes and Czech partner, Lukas Dlouhy, overcame the second set slip to defeat Eduardo Schwank and Potito Starace 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 in 72 minutes.

They set up a third round clash against Rik de Voest and Ashley Fisher, who overcame No. 12 seeds and Roland Garros winners Pablo Cuevas and Luis Horna 7-6(3), 6-2.
