The 26-ranked Ukraine, who held India 1-1 but lost their second match 0-2 to South Africa, now lie in fourth place.

In the second match, world No 19 Italy had their nose ahead as early as the fourth minute through a penalty conversion by Alessia Dorian Padalino to lead 1-0 at the break.

The 12th-ranked South Africans' search for the equalizer ended when Laure Penny scored in the 40th minute as the match ended in a draw.

South Africa and Italy lead the pool with seven and five points respectively.
