Lucknow Nawabs edge out Bengal Tigers

January 26, 2005 19:18 IST

Lucknow Nawabs tamed Bengal Tigers by a solitary goal as the latter put up a spirit challenge but failed to convert their into goals in the Tier II of Premier Hockey League at Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The solitary goal was scored by Amit Kumar in the 16th minute who converted a short corner and while Bengal Tigers rued their missed chances.

Amit scooped the ball to beat the Bengal custodian Manoj Singh for Nawabs' winner.

But it was a match which Bengal, who have lost all their matches in the league so far, should have easily won.

The Tigers lacked the finishing touch as several of their raids were at the post.

They also earned as many as 13 short corners but could not score even once.

In the event, Lucknow custodian Neeraj Kujur did a commendable job for his team.

Lucknow scored one of the four penalty corners that came their way.

They now stand fourth in the points table and Bengal, which is yet to open its account, is at the bottom.

Chandigarh Dynamos lead the table followed by Delhi Dazzlers and Imphal Rangers.
