Murray back as World No 2 after claiming Italian Open title

British tennis maestro Andy Murray has reclaimed his second spot from Roger Federer in the latest ATP rankings after winning his maiden Italian Open title.

Andy Murray blows out candle on his birthday cake after winning the match against Novak Djokovic to win the Italian Open on SundayMurray celebrated his 29th birthday in style by outclassing world number one Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3 in the summit showdown in Rome that lasted one hour and 35 minutes.

However, the defeat hardly had an impact on Djokovic's rankings as the Serbian continues to remain at the top with 16150 points and maintains a comfortable lead of 7717 over Murray.

Meanwhile, Canada's Milos Raonic has moved up by a place to ninth, while Frenchman Richard Gasquet jumped two places to stand 10th.

Spain's David Ferrer slipped by three places to 12th place following his third-round exit in Rome at the hands of France's Lucas Pouille.

The top ten players in the latest rankings are as follows:

2. Andy Murray

3. Roger Federer

4. Stan Wawrinka

5. Rafael Nadal

6. Kei Nishikori

7. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga

8. Tomas Berdych

9. Milos Raonic

10. Richard Gasquet.
