Parupalli Kashyap advanced to the men's singles quarter-finals at the Korea Open after a hard-earned victory over Malaysia's Daren Liew, in Incheon, on Thursday.

The Indian shuttler prevailed 21-17, 11-21, 21-12 in 56 minutes.

He will take on Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen, who beat eighth-seeded Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 17-21, 21-16, 21-13.

The 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist is the lone Indian left in fray in the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament.

Earlier, World champion P V Sindhu and the Saina Nehwal bowed out following first round defeats.

While Sindhu lost 7-21, 24-22, 15-21 to Beiwen Zhang of the United States, London Olympics bronze medallist Nehwal was forced to retire due to illness while trailing 21-19, 18-21, 1-8 against South Korea's Kim Ga Eun.

World Championships men's singles bronze medallist B Sai Praneeth also exited early from the tournament.
