Kapur, Chowrasia make cut at Irish Open

May 16, 2009 18:16 IST

Shiv Kapur was left to rue a wobbly back-nine as he carded a one-under 71 to slip to the tied 26th spot even as SSP Chowrasia turned in a stunning six-under 66 to zoom up the leader-board and make the cut at the 3 Irish Open golf tournament in Baltray, Ireland.

Kapur, who was tied for the third spot after the opening round, has a two-day total of seven-under 137 in the European Tour event.

Chowrasia, who was staring at an early exit after opening at tied 124th with a 74, put up a brilliant second-round performance to total four-under 140 for a share of the 60th spot.

Kapur played out a flawless front-nine studded with birdies on the third, sixth and ninth. However, his backward journey was not as smooth and he stumbled to four bogeys against a couple of birdies.

In contrast, Chowrasia had a terrific day as he reeled off seven birdies against a bogey.

A 10th tee starter, Chowrasia sank in back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th before the 16th-hole bogey, the lone blot on his card, left him one-under at the turn.

The Kolkata-pro went on a birdie-firing spree in the front nine, striking in five, to end the day on a high.

The other Indian in fray, Jyoti Randhawa is out of contention after retiring mid-way through his first round.

At the top, Ireland's Shane Lowry (62) took the lead with a total of 129.
