Ace Indian golfer Jeev Milkha Singh on Wednesday, withdrew from next week's Frys.com Open to give himself more time to recover from an ankle injury.

Having secured his PGA Tour card for the next year, Jeev, who has had two top 10 finishes in the US this year, was looking forward to another good finish to round off his season before injuring his right ankle.

Jeev said the risk was not worth since he was set to play in some other big events in Asia and Europe.

"I was really looking forward to playing the Frys.com Open, but unfortunately, I had to pull out of the event with an injured right ankle," said Jeev.

"It is the same injury that bothered me last year around the PGA Championship. I thought I had gotten over it, but that's apparently not the case," said the affable Indian, promising to return to the tournament next year.

Jeev reckoned wearing wrong shoes at the Justin Timberlake's PGA Tour event last week led to his injury since he was used to wearing special footwear.

"The ankle started feeling funny during Friday's second round, and by the time I started warming up for Saturday's third round, I had intense pain. I somehow finished the final two rounds there with the help of painkillers, but after I arrived in Scottsdale for this week's Frys.com Open, I could barely walk," Jeev said.

Jeev said it was frustrating to sit out as he was in such good form.

"I have been advised complete rest and physio. The frustrating part is that I am playing really well at the moment and was looking forward to this stretch of tournaments.

I'm scheduled to play the Volvo World Matchplay in Spain, the HSBC Champions in Shanghai and the Dubai World Championship, which are all big events for me for various reasons," added the world number 52.

Jeev, ranked 38th on European Tour rankings, is also scheduled to play the Race to Dubai World Championships to be held from November 19 to 22 in Dubai.
