ISSF World Cup: Jitu Rai moves into qualification round

Jitu Rai, the world number one in men's 50m pistol, shot a 555 in his elimination round to sail through to the qualification round of the event, to be contested on Thursday, along with the finals, on day four of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) being played in Rio De Janerio's Olympic Shooting Centre.

Indian shooter Jitu RaiTeammate Prakash Nanjappa also shot an identical score to end up sixth in his elimination round whereas Jitu was positioned 10th at the end of his. A good show tomorrow would see them qualify for the finals.

Meanwhile, India's former Olympic Champion Abhinav Bindra and Olympic Bronze medalist Gagan Narang missed out on making the finals of the only medal event slated for the day, the men's 10m Air Rifle.

Abhinav shot 626.2 to finish 10th while Gagan managed a 622.8 to end in 31st position. Chain Singh, the third Indian in the fray in the men's 10m Air Rifle, finished his day on 52nd position with a score of 619.4.

Day five has two finals lined up both in the men's section. Along with the 50m Pistol, the Men's Double Trap medals will also be decided on the day.
