Indian badminton's golden girls Sania and Sindhu set for clash

May 24, 2015 18:14 IST

Three-time champion Saina Nehwal is likely to clash with fellow Indian P V Sindhu in the women's singles second round of the Indonesia Open Super Series Premier in Jakarta next month.

World No. 1 Saina has won the event three times -- in 2009, 2010 and 2012, while Sindhu, ranked 12th, is unseeded in the US$ 800,000 tournament that begins on June 2.

The Olympic bronze medallist Indian, who is seeded second, will open her campaign against Thailand's Nichaon Jindapon and starts as favourite against her opponent given her past record of three wins in as many meetings.

Two-time World Championship bronze medallist, Sindhu, on the other hand, faces Hsu Ya Ching of Chinese Taipei and if the Hyderabadi girl can get past the World no. 27, she will face compatriot Saina in the second round.

The two leading ladies of Indian badminton have met only once in international circuit during the 2015 Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold where Saina beat Sindhu in straight games to lift the title.

Saina and Sindhu have clashed a couple of times during the 2013 Indian Badminton League.
