Mumbai FC put up a good disciplined performance to register a morale-boosting 2-0 win against Bengaluru FC in a third round match of the I-League football tournament, and played at the Cooperage ground, Mumbai, on Wednesday.

The home side got their goals through Izumi Arata in the 5thminute and Min-Chol Son in the 11th minute and thus handed BFC their first defeat of the season

Mumbai FC started in whirlwind fashion hitting the target twice inside the opening 11 minutes. First one came when Arata latched on to a rebound and coolly slotted past Bengaluru goalkeeper L Ralte in the fifth minute to bring the Mumbai FC fans on their feet, clapping and cheering in jubilation.

Six minutes later there was more cheer for the Mumbai FC fans as central defender Son long clearance from just inside the rival half sailed over the outstretched hands of Ralte, who was off his line and into the goal.

In the second half the visitors worked harder and created the better chances but were not allowed many opportunities to have a crack at goal.

The visiting team, which suffered their first loss after three straight wins, made two substitutions in the second half with skipper Sunil Chhetri and Alwyn George being replaced by Thoi Singh and Udanta Singh.

The victory enabled Mumbai FC to leapfrog from fifth to the second spot with two wins and as many draws (6 points) while Bengaluru remained on top with nine points.
