Hockey India condoles death of Abdul Hamid

Hockey India today condoled the death of former India player Abdul Hamid in his home-town of Jhansi.

Hamid, who was 66, was a member of the Indian team that won the silver medal in the Jakarta Asian Games in 1962.

Hamid, who was a winger, played much of his hockey in Calcutta Mohammedan Sporting, Mohun Bagan and Bengal Nagpur Railway, which is now South Eastern Railway.

In the National Championship, he played for Railways, forging a formidable combination with the likes of Balbir Singh, Gurbux Singh, Harbinder Singh.

"Hockey India prays for strength for Mr Hamid's family which lives in Monibala outside Sainyar Gate in Jhansi," a Hockey India release said.
