I-League champions Salgaocar registered their first victory in the 33rd Federation Cup football tournament, trouncing Hindustan Aeronautics Limited 4-0 in Pune on Tuesday.
Salgaocar, who were held goalless by Mumbai FC in their opening match on Sunday, were overwhelming winners as they attacked at will after initial resistance from HAL, at the Balewadi Sports Complex.
Once Ryuji Suekoa converted from the spot in the 26th minute, after Chidi Edeh was brought down in the box, the floodgates opened.
The next two goals came in the next six minutes. First, Rocus Lamare doubled the lead in the 29th minute, and, then, in the 32nd minute, Chidi made it 3-0 with a diving header.
Chidi dived forward to meet a low Gilbert Oliviera centre in the air, sending it past rival goalkeeper Pramod.
Changing over, captain Luciano Sabrosa headed in Salgaocar's fourth goal in the 52nd minute to complete the rout.
After Tuesday's win, Salgaocar have four points from two matches while HAL are yet to open their account.
In Kolkata, Prayag United were held goalless by Air India at the Salt Lake stadium.
The solitary point from the match took Prayag to four points from two matches while Air India have one after two outings.
Both sides created lot of chances but were unable to convert. The first half saw Prayag dominating the proceedings while Air India muffed some close chances in the second.
Meanwhile, the All India Football Federation announced that the Federation Cup Cup will be telecast live by Doordarshan from Pune and Kolkata.
Besides the two semi-finals and the final, DD Sports will telecast some other matches live as NewsTime, the official broadcaster, has agreed to share feed with DD for the tournament.
The matches to be telecast:
September 21: East Bengal vs Dempo (4pm); Mohun Bagan vs Churchill Brothers (7pm).
September 22: Prayag United vs Sporting Clube de Goa (4pm); Pailan Arrows vs Salgaocar (7pm).
Semi-finals:September 25 and September 26 (Both 6pm)
Final: September 29 (6pm).
