Manchester City's new-look side continued their impressive start to the season when they preserved their 100 per cent record with a 1-0 win at Portsmouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

emmanuel adebayorEmmanuel Adebayor, signed from Arsenal for 25.0 million pounds in the summer, kept his record of scoring in every league match since his transfer by heading in what proved to be the winner after 30 minutes.

He rose unmarked from a crowded penalty area to powerfully head home Gareth Barry's corner which proved enough to send Portsmouth to their fourth successive league defeat and their worst start to a season for 55 years.

City rose to fourth in the table with nine points out of nine, three points behind Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur who lead the table with 12 points from four matches and level with Manchester United who have nine points from four games.

Portsmouth are bottom with no points from their four games.

Modric out for six weeks

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric will be out for at least six weeks after breaking a bone in his right fibula in Saturday's 2-1 win over Birmingham City, the Premier League club said Sunday.

The 23-year-old Croatian midfielder, who has been in inspired form as Spurs have won their opening four league matches of the season, was hurt in what seemed an innocuous collision with Lee Bowyer at the start of the second half of Saturday's match.

He told the Croatian daily Jutarnji List: "It's like my whole world has crumbled because I will be out for at least six weeks. I am terribly sad.

"It wasn't a ferocious tackle but it hurt awfully and I knew something was wrong the moment it happened.

"The worst feeling is knowing that I will be watching both my club and country from the sidelines for a while."
