EPL: Wolves and Bolton lift the gloom

Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Wigan Athletic 3-1 to secure their first Premier League victory since August and leave their opponents rooted to the foot of the table on Sunday.

Bolton Wanderers also lifted recent gloom with a 5-0 thrashing of Stoke City, Chris Eagles and Ivan Klasnic scoring twice each to earn their team's first home league points of the season and avenge the 5-0 loss to Stoke in this year's FA Cup semi-finals.

Goals for David Edwards and Stephen Ward after the break sealed victory for Wolves after Wigan had equalised just before halftime through Ben Watson.

Wolves, who began the season well before a slump in form, had taken the lead through Jamie O'Hara.

The home side moved up to 13th in the table with 11 points. Wigan are bottom with five points after eight consecutive Premier League defeats and Bolton failed to move out of the bottom three.

Later on Sunday (1600 GMT), Tottenham Hotspur aim to continue their impressive recent run when they visit Fulham.

Wolves went in front after 31 minutes when O'Hara was on hand to convert Kevin Doyle's cross from close range.

They could not protect the lead until the interval, however. Stephen Hunt fouled Emmerson Boyce in the area and although Watson's penalty was saved by Wayne Hennessey he was able to convert the rebound.

Wolves regained the lead after 55 minutes when Edwards thumped the ball into the net after Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi had made two superb reflex saves in quick succession.

Ward added the third for Wolves after 66 minutes, again after Al Habsi had performed wonders to keep out an O'Hara effort but was left exposed by his defenders' failure to react fast enough to the danger.
