Racing against time to complete the Commonwealth Games projects, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday, reviewed progress of various works linked to the event and directed her Cabinet colleagues monitor the unfinished projects on a daily basis.

At a Cabinet meeting, Dikshit told the Ministers to do everything possible and to ensure completion of the ongoing construction activities by August 31.

The Cabinet discussed various issues relating to preparation of the city for the mega sporting event, sources said.

Dikshit is believed to have told her Cabinet colleagues not be disappointed by the negative stories in the media about the preparations and asked them to concentrate hard on making the event a grand success.

The Delhi government is under increasing attack for the city's tardy preparation for the event as several key infrastructure projects are yet to be completed. Officials indicate that some of the projects may not be completed before the final deadline of August 31.

Chief secretary Rakesh Mehta has already indicated that the Barapulla Nallah elevated road project may not be completed by August 31.

The four-km-long elevated road between Sarai Kale Khan and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the event, is being built to provide uninterrupted traffic flow from Games Village near Akshardham temple to the stadium.

Delhi government had undertaken projects worth over Rs 10,000 crore to improve infrastructure in the city ahead of the Games that start on October 3.
