Delhi out of Santosh Trophy

Raman Vijayan's goal helped Tamil Nadu beat Delhi 1-0 to enter the quarter-finals of the Santosh Trophy football tournament in Gurgaon on Friday.

Vijayan found the net in the extra time (110th minute) after the two teams failed to break the 0-0 deadlock in the regulation time and propelled his team into the last eight stage of the nationals.

Karnataka was the other team reaching the quarter-finals after they defeated Chhattisgarh 4-2 via a tie-breaker in the other knock-out match.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

Ram Chandra Murmu gave Chhattisgarh the lead by with a superb goal in the 14th minute but N S Manju equalised before the end of the first half.

The two teams then failed to break the deadlock in the second half, taking the match to extra time.

Another barren session pushed the match into the tie-break, in which Karnataka clinched the affair with a skillful display.

Haryana, Maharashtra, Kerala, Goa, Punjab and West Bengal have already booked their last eight berths, which would be played from October 14.
