Earlier, India's first and only World wrestling champion Sushil Kumar outclassed South Africa's Heinrich Barnes clinch gold in the 66kg freestyle gold medal, Anuj Kumar claimed a silver medal in the 84 kg category and Anil Kumar won bronze in the men's freestyle 55kg wrestling event.
Sania-Rushmi clinch bronze in women's doubles event
Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarti win bronze medal in the women's doubles tennis event beating compatriots Nirupama Sanjeev and Poojashree Venkatesha 6-4, 6-2.
Archer Rahul Banerjee clinches gold
Archer Rahul Banerjee clinche gold for India in the men's individual recurve event and India got another bronze when courtesy Jayanta Talukdar, in the men's individual recurve event.
Rahul's gold took India's tally to 27, just three short of their record tally at Manchester in 2002.
Earlier, 17-year-old Ranchi-born women archer Deepika Kumari won a gold medal in the women's recurve event, surprising 2004 Athens Olympics bronze medallist Alison James Williamson 6-0, to win her second gold at the Games.
Senior archer Dola Banerjee, won the bronze in the same event. Incidentally Dola lost 2-6 to her English rival in the semis while Deepika had outclassed Malaysia's Anbarasi Subramaniam to reach the final. Later, Dola beat Anbarasi 6-2 in the bronze play-off.
Harpreet wins gold, Manavjit settles for bronze
Pistol shooter Harpreet Singh added another gold in India's kitty to help India leap past England into the second spot.
Harpreet scored 580/600 points to bag the gold. Vinay Kumar won silver in the same event.
Meanwhile, Manavjit Singh Sandhu won bronze for India in singles trap event.
However, women shooters Suma Shirur and Kavitha Yadav failed to finish among the top three in 10m air rifle singles event.
Jai Bhagwan in semis, Akhil bows out
Asian silver-medallist Jai Bhagwan (60kg) assured India a third boxing medal by advancing to the semi-finals but defending champion Akhil Kumar (56kg) bowed out after losing to Olympic bronze-medallist Bruno Julie in the quarter-finals.
Jai, a Commonwealth Championship gold-medallist, blanked Waheed Sogbamu of Nigeria 10-0 to assure himself of his maiden CWG medal along with Amandeep Singh (49kg) and Suranjoy Singh (52kg), who won their quarter-final bouts.
It was heartbreak for the 29-year-old Akhil who lost 5-7 to Julie after a see-saw battle. Ironically, Akhil had beaten Julie in the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games finals.
Akhil was the first Indian to take the ring on Sunday and after an exhausting pre-quarterfinal win last night over European silver-medallist Iain Weaver of England, the Indian seemed tired.
Both the boxers were tied 1-1 after the opening round but Akhil began to lose the grip over the fight in the second round when Julie took a crucial one-point lead to make it 3-2 in his favour.
Julie then managed to connect on counter-punching wrapping up the tense proceedings in his favour in the final three minutes.
Kashyap, Aditi breeze through
Young shuttlers P Kashyap and Aditi Mutatkar breezed through their respective matches as India continued their rampaging run in the individual event.
Pune girl Aditi took 17 minutes to make short work of Sri Lankan Subodha Kumari 21-14, 21-7, while Kashyap saw off Jamaican Pyne CCS 21-5, 21-12 in another clash at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.
Mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju also stormed into the next round, spanking Jamaican duo of Henry Gareth Andre Theodore and Kristal Karjohn Fayonne 21-13, 21-8 in a 14-minute match.
Sanave Thomas and Aparna Balan also started on a positive note, beating Nigerian combo of Fagbemi Ebenezar Olaoluwa and Braimah Hajara Maria 21-10 21-8 to reach the next round.
Aditi had a shaky start as she allowed the Sri Lankan to open a 5-2 lead but the Indian soon clawed back at 9-8 and after surviving some anxious moments, made the score 16-13 before pocketing the game.
In the next game, she didn't give Subodha any chance and moved to 11-4 at the break and held her fort to claim an easy win.
Kashyap too didn't face much of a challenge from the Jamaican.
Jwala-Diju, meanwhile, took some giant strides as they moved from 6-4 to 13-8 and 18-10 before wrapping it up 21-13 in the first game.
The second game was no different as the Indian duo jumped to a 6-2 lead before moving to 11-6 at the break, and grabbed six straight points to widen the gap to 18-7..
