Sengupta, Kruthika best

Deep Sengupta (Jharkhand) and Kruthika Nadig (Maharashtra) won the first National Sub-junior Super League chess championship for boys and girls which concluded in Hyderabad on Friday.

Deep was locked with Abhijit Gupta (Rajasthan) on 10.5 points after the 13th and final round and the winner was decided by applying the 'Koya system'.

G Rohit (Andhra Pradesh), Akshayaraj Kore (Masharashtra) and D Sai Srinivas (Andhra Pradesh) will join Deep and Abhijit in the national squad for the Junior Chess Olympiad.

Kruthika emerged as a clear winner with 9.5 points in the girls' section and Mary Ann Gomes (West Bengal) was given the second spot while her statemate Saheli Nath took third place after they were tied on nine points each.

Mahima Rajamohan (TN) was the other player with seven points to get into the girls' Junior Olympiad squad.
