Bernard is new coach of Mohun Bagan

October 15, 2011 19:28 IST

Mohun Bagan football club on Saturday accepted the resignation of coach Steve Darby and appointed former Nigerian footballer Bernard Operanazie in the Englishman's place.

Bernard was working as an assistant coach under Darby, who submitted his resignation this morning, as club authority appointed a three–member technical committee comprising Olympian Chuni Goswami and former internationals Prasanta Banerjee and Satyajit Chatterjee.

Stating that this was unacceptable, Darby said in his resignation letter, "this has created a lot of mental pressure on me which I can't accept".

Informing the appointment of Bernard, Mohun Bagan secretary Anjan Mitra said that whoever was appointed coach of the club, he would have to work under the committee.
