BFI appoints Scott Flemming as head coach

November 19, 2012 15:55 IST

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) announced the appointment of Scott Flemming as the head coach of Indian senior men's national basketball team.

Flemming brings along with him over 30 years of collegiate and professional coaching experience in the United States, a release from the BFI stated.

During his career, Flemming has earned two national coach of the year awards.

Prior to joining BFI, Flemming was the assistant coach of the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League. He has also served as the men's head coach and athletic director at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio.

"I had been looking for another head coaching position, an opportunity to not only do what I love, but to make a real difference, when this opportunity was presented to me," Flemming said.

"The more I looked into it, the more excited I became as it's really a chance to grow the game of basketball at a true grassroots level in the largest untapped market in the world.

As India's national program is deeply committed to growth and improvement, as demonstrated by the foundation that's been built over the last few years, with my background and with what I've done, it's a great fit," he insisted.

Meanwhile, former India senior's men's coach Kenny Natt will continue in an advisory role with the BFI, overseeing the progress of both the Indian men's and women's national team programs, in his new post as director of basketball at IMG Academy in Florida, the release added.
