AIFF lifts Mohun Bagan ban, slaps 2 crore fine

In a change of stance, AIFF has lifted the three-year suspension on Mohun Bagan but have imposed a Rs 2 crore fine, it has been reported.

Bagan will start the with zero points and could be relegated.

The century-old Bengali club was slapped with a two-year suspension by the All India Football Federation for abandoning their violence-marred I-League derby match against East Bengal on December 9.

The Kolkata giants had refused to take the field in the second half of their match against East Bengal citing 'security fears' after their key player Syed Rahim Nabi got hit on the face by a stone that was hurled from one of the club's stands.

The star India player underwent a surgery to set right two fractured bones and will be out of action for at least six weeks.

Bagan officials had on December 31 appealed to the AIFF to review its decision to suspend the club till 2015-16 season for abandoning the I-League derby against East Bengal.
