DPR Korea, Myanmar in AFC Challenge Cup semis

August 02, 2008 22:56 IST

Title favourites DPR Korea and Myanmar scored hard-earned victories in their second Group B matches to advance to the semi-finals of the AFC Challenge Cup football tournament in Hyderabad on Saturday.

While Myanmar scored two late goals to break Sri Lankan resistance for a 3-1 victory, the North Koreans did all the attack but could score only a solitary goal in a rain-socked match at the Gachibowli Stadium.

Midfielder Park Song Chol scored the all-important goal for the Koreans in the 40th minute.

With two wins from two matches, DPR Korea and Myanmar are on six points each and will take on each other on Monday to decide who tops the group.

Saturday's results also rendered the other Group B match between Sri Lanka and Nepal on Monday inconsequential.
