Bobby Charlton served with distinction for both club and country. In fact, Manchester United and England enjoyed their finest moments in the prime of his career.

Bobby Charlton He made his debut for Man U at 17 and went on to form a scintillating partnership with the awesome George Best. As a midfielder, he shone with his scorching runs and booming shots.

He was the toast of all in England during the 1966 season and was adjudged "European Footballer of the Year" after turning in a spectacular performance with Manchester United, for whom he served loyally right through his playing career.

When England hosted the World Cup the same year, Charlton was one of the architects who fashioned a memorable English triumph. His goals rank among the all-time best in English football.

For his outstanding contribution, he was feted with the Commander of the British Empire and was knighted in 1994.
