Argentine soccer great Diego Maradona, initially barred from Japan because of his past history of drug abuse, will be allowed to enter the country after all, Japanese media said on Friday.

Justice Minister Mayumi Moriyama approved his entry to Japan to watch Argentina in the World Cup finals, Kyodo news agency said quoting government sources.

Maradona, who guided his country to World Cup victory in 1986, is expected to arrive in Japan on Monday, the sources were quoted as saying.

Officials at the Justice Ministry were not immediately available for comment on the report which came as Argentina were playing England in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo.
