Indian wrestlers start well
India's grapplers began their
campaign in freestyle wrestling on a positive note, notching victories in the preliminary rounds at the Asian Games on Sunday.
In the 66kg class, Pawan Kumar beat Alan Niyazmengliev
of Turkmenistan 5-2 on points in round one and then
pinned China's Liang Cl in round 2, winning a 6-3 verdict, to
brighten his medal prospects.
In the women's 55kg class, Alka Tomar progressed to the
second round, winning the direct elimination first round. She
beat Naidan Otgongargal of Mongolia 7-4 on points.
Another Indian medal hope, Kripa Shankar Patel got the
better of Turkmenistan's Rovshan Seyidov, winning 8-5 on
points, in the preliminary round 1, in the men's 55kg
category.
In the 84kg class, Anuj Komar lost to Uzbekistan's Aslan Sanakoev
2-6 in the preliminary round 1.
alwinder Singh Cheema had a mixed day in the 120kg
class, losing one bout and winning another.
After he was outclassed 0-10 by Artur Taymazov of
Uzbekistan in the preliminary round 1, he came back
strongly to trounce Nurberdy Hekimov of Turkmenistan 10-0 in
round 2 to stay in contention.
