Mohammed Rafi [Images] scored two goals, once in each half, as local giants Mahindra United thrashed cellar Goan outfit Vasco 4-0 in the 17th round I-League football tie at the Cooperage ground on Sunday.

Showing good opportunism, Rafi found the net in the 35th and 76th minutes. The other goal scorers were Sushil Kumar [Images] and Nigerian striker Chidi Edeh in the 31st and 37th minutes of the tie.

The emphatic victory took Mahindra's tally to 21 and left Vasco chugging at the bottom with ten points.

Mahindra totally dominated the match and could have won by an even bigger margin but for a spate of missed chances while Vasco did practically nothing but defend their citadel in the wake of the local teams repeated forays.

Sushant Mathew, later declared the man of the match, did the spadework for the first strike by feeding Sushil Kumar with a cross from the right which was volleyed in by the latter.

Mahindra struck two more goals in the space of three minutes to totally demoralise the visiting team who remained at the bottom with ten points after their second successive massive loss, having been beaten 9-1 by Churchill Brothers in their previous tie.
