Deepika Kumari became only the second Indian archer to win a Youth World Championship title after bagging gold in the girls' Cadet Recurve category, in the 11th edition of the tournament at Ogden (Utah), United States.

In the final tussle on Sunday, the fourth seeded Jharkhand girl shot 115 points to beat Russia's [Images] Sayana Tsyrempilova, who could score only 109, the Archery Association of India said.

Deepika had a consistent run throughout the tournament, scoring 115 out of a possible 120 in the quarter-finals and then 112 in the semi-finals.

Compatriot Sanjay Boro won the bronze in the boys' Cadet Recurve category.

Palton Hansda was the first Indian to win a Junior Compound Individual gold in the ninth Youth World Archery Championship in 2006 at Merida, Mexico.

Earlier, seventh seed Boro from Assam beat Antonio Hector Smith of Mexico 110-105 in the third position play-off.

Deepika was unstoppable since the start of the day's proceedings.

The first end of three arrows fetched her 29 points and the second end of three earned her 29 again. Only in third, she shot two 9s and a 10 for 28 points but by then she had secured a comfortable six-point lead.

The 29-member Indian contingent finished their campaign with a gold and two bronze medals, bettering the two silvers the Indian team bagged last year at Kundu-Antalya, Turkey.
