Sania loses in first round

Sania Mirza [Images] was dumped in the first round of the Ponte Vedra Beach championships in Miami [Images] on Monday by seventh seed Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine.

The Indian ace, who has slipped to 100 in the singles rankings, lost 4-6, 3-6, even as 14-year-old American Madison Keys won on her WTA Tour debut, scoring a 7-5, 6-4 first round win over 21-year-old Russian Alla Kudryavtseva.

Keys fought back from 2-5 down in the opening set to upset Kudryavtseva, ranked 81 in the world, and set up a possible second round meeting with Russian top seed Nadia Petrova [Images].

In other matches of the day, third seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia beat Edina Gallovits of Romania 6-2, 6-2, Patricia Mayr of Austria) beat Japan's [Images] Ayumi Morita 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 and Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine accounted for Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of the Czech Republic 7-6(2), 6-2.
