Yamini lifts a Games record

Yamini S grabbed another gold medal for India, winning the women's 58 kg weightlifting competition, and breaking the Games record in the process, on the fourth day of the third edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune on We4dnesday.

Yamini started off with a Games record in snatch, a lift of 72 kgs, and then subsequently broke her own records with lifts of 76 kgs and 80 kgs.

Liku Maria of Fiji, the eventual silver medalist, was in second place after the snatch round, with a lift of 70 kgs, while Carolanne Lanouette of Canada [Images], the eventual bronze medalist, was fourth, with a best lift of 64 kgs.

In the clean and jerk round, Yamini continued to break the Games' record with every lift -- 92 kgs, 96 kgs and 98 kgs.

Carolanne pushed herself into medal contention with a best lift of 85 kgs, while Maria had a lift of 84 kgs.

The gold went to Yamini with a total of 178 kg, a Games record, while Maria took the silver with a total lift of 154 kg. Carolanne pushed herself to get the bronze, finishing with a total of 149 kgs.
