Mahesh Bhupathi [Images] and his Bahamian partner Mark Knowles crashed out of the season-ending Masters Cup after losing to Luis Horna and Pablo Cue Vas in Shanghai on Thursday.

The third seeded Indo-Bahamaian pair lost their last round-robin match of the Red Group 7-6(3), 6-7(4), 5-10 to the eighth seeded Peru-Uruguay combination.

Both the pairs had come into the match with one defeat and a victory. It was a must-win match for both the teams to qualify for the semi-final stage.

With the defeat, Indian challenge ended in the prestigious US $4,45,000 event. Leander Paes [Images] and his partner Lukas Dlouhy also failed to make the semi-final cut, having crashed out on Wednesday.

Only the top two teams of the Red and Gold groups will compete in the semi-finals.

Paes and Dlouhy finished last in the four-team Gold group.
