Liverpool suffered their first league defeat of the season Saturday when Roman Pavlyuchenko scored in injury time to give Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 comeback win to complete a dream first week for new coach Harry Redknapp.

Liverpool were cruising after an early goal by Dirk Kuyt but a Jamie Carragher own goal on 69 minutes opened the door and Spurs, who scored twice in the last few minutes to draw 4-4 at Arsenal [Images] Wednesday after beating Bolton Wanderers last week, seized their chance.

Arsenal also suffered a shock defeat when they went down 2-1 at Stoke City as a red card for Robin van Persie and a bad injury to Theo Walcott completed a miserable day for Arsene Wenger's team.

Hull City came from 1-4 down to push Manchester United [Images] all the way before losing 4-3 at Old Trafford.

Chelsea thumped Sunderland 5-0, helped by a hat-trick by Nicolas Anelka [Images], to go top of the table.

Chelsea have 26 points, the same as Liverpool, who beat them at Stamford Bridge last week. Manchester United are up to third on 21, with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Hull all on 20.
