Australian Ric Charlesworth has resigned as consultant for the Indian hockey team after an unhappy 10 months.

"He sent in his resignation to Sports Authority of India with a copy to us," Indian Olympic Association secretary-general Randhir Singh said. "(He) was far too demanding on what he wanted."

The highly successful coach, recommended by the world body to help revive the Indian game, sent his letter some days ago after being frustrated at not being paid for his services and the way the game was being run in the country, media reported.

The eight-times former Olympic champions were eliminated from next month's Beijing [Images] Games at the final qualifying tournament in Chile in March.
